Water Color as of 1 July 2009
The colored water that we are experiencing in our Maple Grove system is caused by the reaction of higher levels of dissolved manganese in our source water and the chlorine we must add for disinfection. This issue is one of esthetics only, the water meets all regulations and is safe to consume. Even though this issue is of esthetic qualities only, we are still actively taking measures to minimize the level of color, and the duration of time that it is present. There is dissolved manganese present in our water all of the time, but during the spring runoff from the mountains the concentration reaches levels that exceed our current treatment capabilities. With the addition of our new pretreatment processes that will be available this fall we will be better capable of dealing with the higher concentrations of dissolved manganese, and many other treatment issues we have experienced in the past. Please be patient with us, and we will get through this issue as rapidly as possible.
