Pipe Bursting Technology
The Consolidated Mutual Water Company replaces up to 40,000 Linear Feet of pipe per year. The water main replacement program employs trenchless technology, which we are able to perform in-house. Pipe bursting is an important tool in the toolbox that Consolidated has been using since 2010. The one-time purchase of bursting equipment was an investment that has paid off. Over 204,000 ft of pipe we installed via pipe bursting is about 40% of our system replacement. Through our stewardship of Company assets, we are able to save our Stockholders money and reduce community disruption.

Here are excerpts from 2013 Trenchless technology magazine article for Project of the Year:
“Consolidated faces the same aging infrastructure problems that many other utilities face, namely that large sections of the system need to be replaced and upgraded. These sections contained large amounts of undersized and problematic cast iron pipe.”
“Consolidated’s program embodies everything that trenchless techniques promise: cost-savings, efficiency, positive social impact, value for constituents and delivery of improved infrastructure with less hassle.”
“Consolidated has gone the extra mile for its rate-payers and has achieved in real dollars what many organizations only pay lip service to, which is “Doing more with Less.”
