Keeping Your Water Clean
Water Treatment

Maple Grove Water Treatment Plant has a primary and secondary filter system. In 2024, we will replace the second-stage membranes. These membranes are original and have been in service for 15 years. The membranes originate in Hungary and require 52 weeks lead time to manufacture and deliver to Lakewood.

The second stage membranes filter water that does not pass through the primary membranes. These membranes treat raw water and are more robust than their primary counterparts. Using these membranes to treat water from the primary membranes helps make Maple Grove Water Treatment Plant 99.5% water efficient.

Maple Grove Water Treatment Plant has two second-stage membrane trains. Each train can filter 720,000 gallons daily, 30,000 gallons every hour.

Membranes become fouled with biofilm and scale as they filter water. This impedes the ability to filter water, and they must be cleaned periodically to restore flow. After 10 to 15 years, depending on operating conditions, the membranes will deteriorate, so the flow is not efficiently restored and must be replaced.
